These questions have in turn pushed me to ponder on the question of whether young women have any hope of being strategic partners in peace building and conflict transformation efforts in the world, despite the fact that they are the primary victims and survivors of conflict. I was not convinced the answer is a strong ‘Yes’. It appears to me that there is still a need to work around many hurdles before we can get to a resounding ‘Yes!’
In a world that seems to be facing fresh conflicts and where many citizens are beginning to demand the recognition of their rights, it is apparent that peace building and peace
pacts are going to be inevitable. Therefore, there is an urgent need to talk about the role of women and in particular young women as strategic partners in ensuring sustainable peace in communities, countries, regions and the world at large.
