Layout is governed by a home-made XTemplate theme and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), not tables.

The small country flags in the banner are Herman's small gifs, and the larger country flags are based on Wikipedia flags.

The grey and brown maps were developed from the map available at Institute of Security Studies. Main country maps are from the University of Texas.

The site is designed for 1024x768 screen resolutions. The intention is to use Javascript to automatically switch stylesheets for resolutions under 1000 pixels wide. An alternative would be to let users decide (as described here ).
