Zambia: Mopani Mine Police Officer Shoots Five Illegal Miners

FIVE illegal miners have been shot and wounded by a mine police officer after they were found within Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) restricted area in Kitwe's Wusakile dump site. Copperbelt police chief, Antoneil Mutentwa yesterday confirmed the incident, which happened on Monday and said the five are currently admitted to Kitwe Central Hospital (KCH). Mr Mutentwa said the five men, belonging to the group commonly known us 'Finyamunyamu' were shot and wounded after a mine police officer spotted them in the dump site ... The five included Thomas Mukuka of B-7/20, Emmanuel Sitali of C-7/59 and Moris Chibenga of B-4/208 all of Wusakili township. Others were Lukwesa Kapungwe of F-34 in Chibuluma township and Boyd Musonda of Kitwe's Ipusukilo township. They were all shot around 17:00 hours.In Ndola, a retired police officer in Chifubu township allegedly beat his wife and strangled her using a mosquito net on Monday after a domestic dispute ...
