Lesotho College of education

This is a capacity building in early childhood care and development project initiated by the Lesotho College of education. This is because professional development in early childhood education in Lesotho has not been fully formalized. The government through the support of UNICEF is in the process of establishing a policy direction for institutionalizing the preprimary years of formal learning.

Lesotho College of Education intends to implement a capacity building project that involves awareness rising from communities, drawing them to actively partake in the development and care of very small children, instituting a well-designed programme for teaching care givers or teachers, and raising further awareness of policy makers to increase resource allocation to ECDE training.

Other key objectives of this project are evaluating  the existing Certificate in Early childhood Program towards meeting the early childhood Educational needs in the Lesotho and increasing the intake, developing  open and distance learning teaching materials for ECDE programs, developing  curriculum for diploma programme in early childhood training programme (Diploma in Early childhood-DEC) at Lesotho College of education as well as  support LCE to raise its staff capacity in issues of early childhood education.
