The ECDE sector in Zambia is faced with many challenges including lack of early childhood development and the lack of community demand for early childhood development education. Founding Futures is a project intended to strengthen early childhood development in an integrated community setting, with strong potential for scale up and replication.
This project is based in the deprived community of BISO in the Chazanga District on the outskirts of Zambia’s capital city Lusaka. The project will among other things Raise awareness of the importance of ECDE within the Chazanga community and among government, CSO and local stakeholders by providing skills and knowledge of ECDE within the community to create a culture ofdemand for ECDE in the community, improve the ability of the target group of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) to succeed in primary education as a result of ECDE and promote and share best practice with key stakeholders across Zambia by linking community level activities with national level actions.
The project will also work to recruit and train ECDE group leaders, establish a regular ECDE Founding Futures Clubs in the community, increase Literacy and communication activities such as singing, telling stories, reading and play using Brill Kids tool kits.
