Formed in July 2000, the CSCQBE is a coalition of diverse independent and voluntary organizations (non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, trade unions, religious based organizations, institutions dealing with disadvantaged or marginalized groups, private schools association, and youth organizations among others), each having their own activities and constituencies but united in the common pursuit of the right to quality basic education in Malawi. To date, the coalition has 75 members and 28 district education networks which are spread across the country. Since its inception the organization has been carrying advocacy and public awareness around increased budgetary allocation, participatory policy formulation process, teacher welfare, special needs education, infrastructure development, review of education act and curriculum, girl child education and promotion of community participation in school management among other.
